BE THE VOICE “VIV” AWARD – CRABAPPLE MIDDLE SCHOOL

At the conclusion of every year, Be THE Voice recognizes students/clubs who were “VIV”s (Very Important Voices). Today we are showcasing Crabapple Middle School.

We’re so very proud of each student and the wonderful teachers Angelique Hayes & Kevin Squiers & BTVLs Michael Curling & Kay Howell who supported the club!

VIV Submission – The Crabapple Middle School Starhouse Community Project:

The Crabapple Middle School Interact Club was ecstatic this school year in creating a difference for the Roswell Community. The students had quite a list of community service projects. At the beginning of the school year, the kids identified the community service project list that they wanted to accomplish for the 2019/2020 year. The project that the kids chose to submit for this award was the one in which they included the entire school population for participation. The students created a contest that challenged each grade (by homeroom) to collect books for the StarHouse Foundation.

The grade/homeroom that collected the most books won doughnuts for their homeroom class.

The school collected hundreds of books for the StarHouse Foundation. This was quite a success story for our club, Crabapple Middle School, and especially the kids of StarHouse.

The StarHouse Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Roswell, Georgia. This foundation provides after-school tutoring and mentoring for 300 at-risk children throughout North Fulton County. The CMS Interact club assisted the foundation in the goal of bridging the gap for these elementary students, providing books for the kids in need, as well as the opportunity to shoot for the stars (through reading) with the new books!

The Star House Foundation community service project was one that really made the students proud. These students sparked excitement across the school, after planning over several months (Oct-Dec 2019). The students first created/advertised the contest. Next they challenged the entire school to bring in both new/ gently used books. The students then participated in counting the books. Lastly the club identified the winner!

The CMS Interact Club students were extremely happy to not only donate the books, but they were excited to see the faces of the kids actually receiving the books. The students of Starhouse were visibly moved by the club’s donation. What a joyful day January 27, 2020 was for all!
